SAT prep classes at Main Library

Prepare for the June 7 SAT exam with a SAT workshop at Broward County Library. Attendees are told exactly what to expect from the SAT; participants get help in determining if certain subjects might be problem areas for them that warrant additional study before the SAT exam is attempted; test tips are given; and attendees complete a sample full-length test -- not only to get acquainted with the SAT contents but to practice the pacing of energy and concentration that is needed for an approximate-four-hour mental task.
The SAT workshop is available at Broward County Library at no charge to high school sophomores and juniors thanks to the Broward Public Library Foundation. The Foundation has underwritten the cost of SAT preparation sessions, the series taught by Alberto Howe of Affordable College Solutions. The workshop consists of three sessions (three separate days), and includes the full-length SAT practice exam. Attendees are required to participate in the full series of the workshop, as each session is vital to the other two.
Registration is also required, as class size is limited. Currently in place is an SAT workshop scheduled for May at the Broward County Main Library, 100 S. Andrews Avenue, Fort Lauderdale. The dates of the three-session workshop are: May 10, 17, and 24. For more details or to register, please contact Main Library Youth Services at 954-357-7504.

won't you be my neighbor?

we at WR have been open for business for a little over four months now, since October 26, 2007, to be exact. the year leading up to opening was hectic for all involved, with staff running all over the county to temporarily fill open positions. now that we are home, we have been able to spend the last four months settling in to our new home.
there are many new ideas and projects we would like to undergo. this is a big, beautiful building and we really want to take advantage of all our resources. this very blog is one such project.
public libraries have historically been places of free access to information to all. librarians are champions of the first amendment. today, libraries are becoming less a place just of books (though we do deal heavily in them), and increasingly a place of information. and that information is becoming increasingly digital.
the idea of the internet is to bring together information and resources, to be a source of communication across physical boundaries, to open the floodgates of knowledge to all. the idea is that if we work together, if we each contribute what we know, then we each get more in return.
it is my hope that this blog will be a place for Broward county residents and library customers to turn to when looking for information on west regional, the programs we are offering, the new materials we receive, and the latest news in library land.

so, please, send me your suggestions! comments wanted! we would love to make this a really interactive and collaborative space. what would you like this resource to be? what would you like to see here?
